About Us
Salaam, I'm Ashraf
I’m the founder of Zawāj, and my mission is to build applications that help the ummah. Zawāj is the first.
Zawāj exists to create successful marriages and to strengthen the ones that already exist.
A portion of our profits is given to causes that serve the ummah. Our revenue also funds the continued refinement and development of Zawāj, and the release of further applications for the ummah.

Before you join
When do you launch?
On 1 November 2026, on iOS and Android.
Which countries is Zawāj available in?
Zawāj is launching in the UK only. We'll expand to more countries and cities next. Join the waitlist and tell us your country so we can prioritise it.
Is it free?
Every matchmaking round in November is free, with no card needed. From December, matchmaking is a paid membership. Courtship and chaperone accounts are free.
What happens if I don't get matched within a month?
Every paid billing period has a minimum number of potential matches: two in a monthly period. If we offer you fewer, you can claim a credit of extra membership time by emailing support, seven days for each match short. It is a credit, not a refund. A Wednesday on which you could not be matched, for example because you had paused, had not opened the app in the week before, or were already matched, is treated as an offer. Periods at an introductory price are not covered. See section 10 of our Terms of Service.
When will I see their photos?
Only once you've both said yes to each other's bio.
How do you verify members?
Every matchmaking member verifies with photo ID and a live selfie. We check the selfie against the ID and against every profile photo. Anything unclear is reviewed by our team.
What can my chaperone see?
Your chaperone has read-only access to your current match: your in-app chat and the daily questions you have both answered. They cannot write in the chat, and never see a number or social account you share there. Once a match ends, they no longer see that chat or those answers. They can also see the basic details on your account, such as your name and phone number.
We already know each other. Can we use Zawāj?
Yes. Add them by username and answer the daily questions together. In-app chat is for matchmaking matches only.
Who can join?
Muslims aged 18 and over. Zawāj is currently available only to members who live in the UK. Join the waitlist and tell us your country so we can prioritise it.
